EDMONTON – A 22-year-old inmate has died while in custody at the Edmonton Institution, a maximum security federal facility located in the city’s northeast.

Jessie Ryan McAdam was found unresponsive in his cell on Tuesday. Correctional officers immediately performed CPR and called an ambulance. However, paramedics were unable to revive him.

McAdam began serving a two year sentence last August for Assault with Use of Force and Robbery.

His family has been notified, as has police and the coroner.

The circumstances surrounding McAdam’s death have not been released, but the Correctional Service of Canada will be reviewing them.
