Unfortunately, this couple does not seem like “employees”, as much as they do as – owners.

One of the employers of a Filipina nanny has been found guilty on charges of human trafficking, a first in B.C.

Franco Orr was found guilty of human trafficking, while his wife, Nicole Huen, a local realtor, was found not guilty today in B.C. Supreme Court.

The nanny’s employers were on trial for bringing 38-year-old Leticia Sarmiento to Canada illegally and forcing her to work as a nanny for several years at their home on Grant Street in East Vancouver.

The court heard that the couple brought Sarmiento to Canada from Hong Kong, where she was their live-in nanny.

Sarmiento had testified that she was forced to work 16 hour days without a day off for two years and was not allowed to leave the home unaccompanied.

She took care of the couple’s three children before calling police in 2010.

Police say her passport had been confiscated by the couple…
